First player to sign with 2012 squad?

The answer to that question would be Colombian defender Nelson Rivas.

He is 28 years and stands at 5 feet, 11 inches. He has quite a nice resume, as he played for Italian club Inter Milan from 2007-2011. His fans from Inter nicknamed him
"The Giant."

“We are excited to bring on board a player like Nelson," Impact head coach Jesse Marsch told the team's website.
“I think it sets the tone for what kind of players we want to bring in for 2012, and what type of organization we want to be. I am confident that his talent and great experience will make our club and team better."

Rivas is excited for the opportunity and feels the world is taking notice of the MLS.

"I'm motivated to join the Montreal Impact and have the chance to work with professional people," Nelson Rivas said. "I'm confident that we are going to be a strong club in MLS. This is a big challenge and new reality for me to join a league that is becoming more important worldwide.”
