The goal scorers for Montreal were forward Mignane Diouf and defender Philippe Billy.
“I saw the ball coming towards me, and that the top of the net was available and I took advantage of it," Diou, the 34th minute goal scorer for Montreal said. "I shot directly. It’s a good start for me at forward and I’m sure with more time, a good offensive complicity will develop to help us create even more scoring opportunities."
Defender Philippe Billy added to the Impact's lead with a goal in the 83rd minute.
Following a free kick that passed the wall, Billy found himself alone with Lance Parker, the goalie for FC Edmonton. He then punched in his first career regular season goal as a member of the Impact.
"We are a team with a lot of character and it’s starting to show positively," Billy said. "Hard work pays and that’s what helped us complete our game today. We must continue to play hard. This win gives us a lot of confidence and helps us start fresh with a solid foundation."
Impact goalie Bill Gaudette earned his fourth shutout of the season and now leads the NASL in that category.
Head coach Marc Dos Santos seemed extremely pleased with the effort and results from his squad.
“We can say mission accomplished today," Dos Santos said. "We showed a lot of character and had a very good possession of the ball. We played better than in the 5-0 win in Edmonton. We could have scored more than two goals, but the important for us right now are the three points. We’ve already started our preparation for our matchup against Atlanta.”
The Impact's next game will be in Atlanta when the team faces the Atlanta Silverbacks on Wednesday June 8 at 7:30pm ET.
