Game Recap: MTL 1-0 Friendly Win Over NYRB

Former MLS striker and Canadian international, Ali Gerba, helped his NASL (North American Soccer League) Montreal Impact squad beat the MLS Eastern Conference-leading New York Red Bulls 1-0 in a friendly (exhibition) match at Stade Saputo stadium last night.

Gerba used to play for Toronto FC of the MLS and a scored off a beautiful header in the 37th minute, to give the Impact the 1-0 lead and only goal of the contest.

Both sides played their "A" list talent to start the game but after halftime wholesale changes were made. New York subbed eight players and Montreal five.

The Impact will join the MLS in 2012, continue their second-division NASL league play when they take on the Carolina RailHawks on Saturday. The Red Bulls will return to New York to host Chivas USA, on Sunday (7 pm, Galavisión).
